Residential Landscape Design Less than 50m2

Design Brief:

Having recently purchased a renovated townhouse in Paddington, Sydney, the clients turned their attention to the garden in order to improve the use of their outdoor spaces and compliment renovation works. The rear courtyard was a small space rarely used given the lack of visual appeal, privacy and connection to the house. This courtyard was directly outside the downstairs entertaining area which consisted of a large living room and bar opening out to the space through sliding double doors, so the clients were after an area that enhanced these internal spaces both day and night.

The existing courtyard planting was minimal and unsuited to the area and style of the house so replacing this with species that complimented it's surroundings and softened the environment was crucial.

The client requested additional seating areas as well as more integrated outdoor cooking and food preparation space for entertaining. A softening of the views from inside the house and ways to increase privacy from overlooking neighbours also needed to be carefully considered.
