Landscape Design - Educational/Institutional/Playspace
Design Brief:
Eastwood Primary School and Deaf Facility required a master-plan that would transform the school grounds into a natural play space rich with interactive elements and opportunities for students to learn, explore and engage with.
The outdoor space had to encompass the school’s philosophy, “Enthusiasm Precedes Success”, whereby understanding that a child’s natural curiosity eventuates into building and applying knowledge through first hand physical experience.
It was necessary for the master-plan to maintain a high level of functionality by complimenting the existing architecture, consider the schools focus on sustainable living and provide a space for the local community to congregate and hold special events.
A collaborative approach was formulated to help shape the project, which meant that the faculty, students and the local community all had a voice throughout the entire process.
Crucial to the design was the use of reclaimed, recycled and locally sourced materials (where possible) to demonstrate the sustainable use of materials, aiming to promote students’ familiarity around sustainable principles and also support local industries, reduce transport, emissions and costs.
