valley garden landscapes - silver Award
Residential Landscape Design 50m2 - 150m2
Design Brief:
The brief from the owners was fairly extensive for what is a relatively small space. The garden should allow for both casual seating and more formal dining as well as a spot for the barbecue and fire pit. An area of lawn to be included for the four legged members of the family and low maintenance gardens with low planting to not take away from the water views. They also wanted a pond with running water to work as a feature as well as to facilitate a Koi collection.
The garden had to provide a striking outlook when viewed from the inside as well as being practical in its approach to creating useable space. Extensive lighting was therefore also a requirement to allow the gardens to be viewed at night from the inside as well as creating ambience when using the space.
The fire pit was placed adjacent to the river and opened up new views down the river never really experienced before.
The planting requirements followed a similar line with the desire to create an unusual scheme using a variety of plants not often seen together. The owners were keen to use a number of native plants and succulents. The existing Murraya hedging was to be retained.
