Plantscape Design
Design Brief:
The homeowners wanted a space to retreat to and entertain friends for meals or drinks. Their planting preference was ‘architectural and unusual’ but tough enough to require little maintenance. The backyard also needed to be a hang-out space for their teenage boys and their many friends, with a patch of lawn for Coco the dog.
The garden was designed to compliment the architecture by incorporating the same materials and colours where possible and reflect the style of clean lines whilst adding interest and drama through contrasting plant forms.
The front garden needed to be bold and sculptural yet simple and sharp, with every garden surface covered in black pebbles. The northern courtyard garden required privacy and shade to create a quiet and restful atmosphere with a touch of sculpture for drama to accentuate the height whilst complementing the front garden and the architecture.
Tucked away on the south side is a small light well garden with windows from the hallway, study and accessed via the kitchen. It’s not big enough to spend time in but needed mass greenery and a dramatic feature pot.
