Design Brief:
This inner west terrace had recently been transformed with a modern architectural extension to the rear. The brief was to create a green extension to the home which is viewed from all internal aspects, a unique and interesting space which would compliment the internal architecture, yet provide its own character.
The introduction of bespoke oversized copper planters, bring strength of character to the space, whilst still being very practical to enable the planting of the deciduous feature trees for all year-round interest, as well as a variety of shrubs and scented ground covers. Each planter is up lit, defining its cube like shape and reflecting the buildings architecture. Each unit has an internal water draw up system for efficient low impact maintenance.
A patterned overhead structure ensures plenty of light whilst still providing privacy. The curved shape of the structure allows for a supportive daybed/seating structure.
A water feature creates an additional layer of interest and by constructing with recycled bricks, blends with the character of the home. Light weight planters on the walls soften the space and add to the lush sense of green.
At the client's request the design focused on recycling/upcycling with no land fill created and no excavation or waste removal required from the site.
