Commercial Open Space Design
Design Brief:
The land where the park has been built is known as a transitional area for the traditional owners of the land. This area was known as a meeting ground for a number of different Aboriginal language groups. The Park marks the entry to the new Edmondson South residential precinct and town centre.
The design was to provide a gateway landmark to mark the entry to the newly developed precinct. The space was required to provide accessible, vibrant and visible public space that would be an asset for the community. A strong lighting element was required to enable use at night, through visibility providing security.
The Public Artists sculpture ‘Camouflage’ provides a figurative representation of the Cumberland Plains Woodland found in the surrounding landscape.
Judges’ Comments:
A creative composition which acts as a wonderful foil for the artwork. The interesting angles in the design create a sense of refuge and also of journey.
The planting and surrounds have been handled tastefully allowing the sculpture to be the hero.
