Rural or Coastal Landscape Design
Design Brief:
The brief was for a design that pays homage to the area in which the garden sits with a casual, homely, timeless, coastal feel. The landscape design was to make sense of the existing levels and retain them in an attractive practical manner but also allow for easy flow around the entertaining areas and the property.
The front garden was to be welcoming and open with a connection to the surrounding neighbourhood and its natural surroundings. Many children visit this home from the neighbourhood. An entertaining space that could cope with busy family living was desired.
A low maintenance, unirrigated planting, incorporating the owners favourite colour pink was desired.
Judges’ Comments:
The planting sits well in its Mornington Peninsula, Mt Eliza woodland context. There are some bold choices such as the corten steel panelling for privacy screening, mixed with considered uses of timber, glass, gabion walls and gravel, in a landscape which elevates the architecture of the home.
