Landscape Design - Large Size Design
Design Brief:
The client required a landscape and pool design for their sloping block of land. The first challenge was the 8.5 metre fall from the top to the bottom. The other challenge was to design a landscape to fit with the architecture of the house and surrounding coastal environment.
The brief specs included a large family-sized pool and spa with a wet edge that captured the view, a reworking of the rear deck to make it more liveable, level terraces to make the rear yard more user friendly, a basketball area, fire pit, built in trampolene, level lawn areas, and an eclectic, textural plant palette, natural coastal textures and materials, an outdoor shower, intimacy and privacy. A relaxed coastal, yet sophisticated feel throughout.
Judges’ Comments:
The result is a relaxed, sophisticated coastal design that met the clients’ brief, with generous proportions and a strong connection with the residence. A sense of flow was created between spaces. There are beautiful textural contrasts between the hardscape finishes and well considered, interesting planting. The view from the house is spectacular. The quality of the work is very high and the design maximises the use of the sloping block.
