CRESWELL DESIGN - silver Award
Landscape Design - Mid Size Design
Design Brief:
The clients wanted to create a tropical lush garden retreat, enveloping their home.
In the front garden to the north some existing species were to be retained. Concrete paths and gravel areas were to be removed. Lawn was required for children to play on and a raised veggie bed was to be incorporated making best use of the northern aspect.
A path was required along the west side of the house to connect to a side street entrance and a generous entertaining area adjacent to the main living and kitchen zone.
The dominant neighbouring double storey dwelling had to be screened. The clients’ quandary was how to incorporate the various elements within the sharply tapering site and still create the desired outcome.
Judges’ Comments:
Clever planning and planting have ensured that each area of this unusual shaped block of land has a function and purpose. Hamish has created a lush tropical garden retreat using hardy textural planting. Swathes of lawn and decking create an illusion of this being a larger garden than it is. Reshaped garden beds connect with the house. The hard landscape elements connect the areas and the timber deck has given this home clean and functional areas. A thoughtful and strategic design.
