CRESWELL DESIGN - bronze Award
Plantscape
Design Brief:
The layout of this garden draws heavily on the architectural lines of the house, projecting them into the garden. The illusion of space is created while dissolving any awareness of the tapering boundaries. An entrance court in Victorian bluestone serves to showcase the attractive façade, Frangipani tree, and garden beyond and invites engagement in all directions.
A bench seat at the edge of the rectilinear lawn is a shady destination. Standing on the patio, a sculptural vista terminus takes the eye to the deepest point of the garden bolstering the sense of depth and the illusion that the garden rambles beyond. The raised veggie bed captures the north sun but falls out of the line of sight allowing abundant greenery to fill the frame.
Architectural lines are drawn from the house to make a seamless connection, facilitating connection, flow, depth and space. A salvaged concrete laundry tub serves as a practical piece and sculptural outlook from the living space.
Judges’ Comments:
The site has been successfully transformed into an inviting landscape with plenty of garden nooks. The design utilises existing plants and a selection of new plants to achieve a lush, tropical feel for the new garden. There is a strong well balanced green theme where plants repeated on mass have maximum impact, perfume, texture, and colour.
