Fifth Season Landscapes
Project: Northbridge Backyard
-
Silver Award - Residential Design (Mid Scale)
Design Brief:
This property had a beautiful living area along the back of the house that connected to an underwhelming and underused backyard. Access between the two garden levels on the heavily sloped embankment was restricted to a small, cramped staircase. A key focus of the brief was to redefine the upper & lower levels of the garden, creating a seamless connection between spaces.
A new shade structure that provided adequate cover for outdoor
entertaining while still allowing natural light into this space and the adjacent living areas was key. Incorporation of informal seating, heating, lighting and a dedicated cooking station were also required.
Judges’ Comments:
Judges loved the enhanced connection between the upper and lower levels of the garden. The stand-out in the design was the individual circular spaces as you move up the stairs to the upper levels.
