RSPCA Yagoona

Design Brief:

The re-design of the RSPCA site was to promote and educate 'pocket pets' such as rabbits, hamsters, mice etc. to a younger generation. The space needed to be fun and interactive, and meet the RSPCA's key goals of finding a safe home for animals in need.

A Memorial Garden was also part of the design to provide a place of calm reflection that would act as a continual hub of interaction.

OUTHOUSE design returned to this site two years later to design its new entrance. The inspiration for their design came from what are referred to as the 5 Freedoms of the RSPCA which are an animal’s right to:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst
2. Freedom from discomfort
3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease 4. Freedom to express normal behaviour 5. Freedom from fear and distress

The installation of a giant water bowl constructed by sculptor Roger Apte gives a feeling of movement, and water flowing is also symbolic demonstrating progress, continuum and constant commitment to the animals.
