Landscape Design - Educational/Institutional/Playspace
Design Brief:
A new landscape was needed to complement a 100+ year old existing church and it’s new extension. The landscape was to provide a welcoming, homely, open entry into the site off the highway and provide a vital connection to the town centre of Yarra Junction, embracing the community spirit of the place.
A calm, quiet space for counselling and staff break out
periods in the entry courtyard area was required. The space was to be user friendly for all levels of physical
ability. A ramp was necessary to allow for access from the disabled parking.
The project was planned to be designed in 3 stages;
1. The Entry Garden,
2. The Counselling Courtyard
3. The Community Art Project (client mosaic
artwork along the entry drive)
A low maintenance garden was requested whereby fortnightly visits would be planned by the client’s maintenance team. The garden was to survive without the need for irrigation - survive off natural rainfall with minimal Summer/Hot Weather watering.
