Landscape Design - Rooftop
Design Brief:
The brief from this client was to create a planting design for a rooftop with spectacular ocean views. The planting was to soften the view back towards other nearby apartment buildings, forming a visual barrier that helps to orientate the space towards the ocean and distract from the buildings behind.
A statement, contemporary design was desired, with plants that could tolerate the intense and variable weather conditions that come with a rooftop right on the coast.
The client wanted to incorporate some natives, and some
flowering plants that would be attractive to pollinators. When the designer was brought in, an existing lawn and some tired looking planting had been removed, with just a slab and a glass balustrade remaining. It was desired to deck the space and provide space for
lounging and dining, with consideration given to having some protection from the sun.
Lighting was to be incorporated into the space to enable the owners to spend time there at night.
