Grindstone Landscapes - Gold Award
Landscape Design - Rooftop
Design Brief:
Grindstone Landscapes were engaged at the later stage of the project, the existing building had already been demolished and the new 5 storey freestanding residence was built.
The brief from the client was very open but clear, a modern low – maintenance garden above the garage that would appeal to a wide range of buyers.
The space gave a unique opportunity to introduce plush planting and to soften the overall size of the building. The study and bedroom on the first floor flow directly onto the garden terrace providing enjoyment of the space during the day or night and a place to relax in privacy.
The residence was finished with modern and sleek materials featuring timber and stone.
Sandstone was chosen for the stepping stones to complement the existing sandstone block wall forming the front fence, the only original element left from the rebuild.
The stepping stones allow the space to be functional and furniture to be used while also allowing as much planting area as possible.
An organic approach was taken to soften the strong lines of the house and to minimise maintenance.
