Landsberg garden Design - Gold Award
Plantscape Design
Design Brief:
The clients were medical professionals who needed a garden that was tranquil, rejuvenating and life-affirming. It needed water – essential to life – and verdancy, it needed to be diverse and interesting in all seasons.
The concept of ‘River Delta’ defines the garden design. At the back of the property, in the
quiet, secluded area around swimming pool and overlooked by the key living areas of the
house, the River Delta has its source; the plants are luscious and tropical, evergreen and
rich. The feel is cool and water is everything
– present in the pool and in the plants.
The garden opens out to green and
fertile cultivated areas; seasonal and floriferous, exotic, shrubs and perennials. The Zoysia grass hummocks flow and bubble between the blue-stone steppers like a bubbling river. These areas are the private seating areas and outlooks for the bedrooms.
Furthest from the water source the planting becomes native to the local sand dunes and coastal winds.
A little garden stands above the whole on the rooftop – a gravel garden exposed to wind
and sun planted with tough, beautiful, drought-tolerant plants. In late summer the garden is burgeoning with growth and awash with colour.
