Plantscape Design
Design Brief:
The client expressed the desire to have a pond for keeping Koi fish and no lawns.
The design progressed exploring options for landforms through the front setback of the site creating a sense of arrival and facilitating entry to the ground floor of the home. It sought to create a journey through the garden via several zones Front, Side, Pond and Rear.
The soft landscaping sought to emulate elements from the Japanese stroll garden with tufting grasses popping up through swathes of low groundcovers.
Mound plantings were placed to emulate rock placements.
The Koi pond is the primary feature and it is looked upon from all internal living areas and adjoins the outdoor entertaining area. Frameless glass was utilised to maximise the connection between pond and home.
Judges’ Comments:
Repeated use of silver and grey plants at the entrance and repeated through the garden adds a serene mood. Details around the koi pond are exceptional. This is simply beautiful.
