outhouse design -gold Award & Finalist for Commercial Landscape design of the year
Commercial Design - Educational
Design Brief:
The design brief from the School Principal and community was to transform this flat, barren and uninviting area into a garden learning scape that all students, staff and the community could enjoy. The design was to deliver a balance of natural and robust materials and be low maintenance.
The central playground celebrates the cultural history and community of the school and is inspired by the four indigenous house team colours; yellow for Birrabirragal, black for Eora ,orange for Gadigal and red for Wangal. Four key activity zones were incorporated into the design to embody the unique individual spirit of each house colour. The activity zones are connected by a meandering pathway that eventually leads you to the Amphitheatre stage.
Judges’ Comments:
This project has transformed an unused area into an adventure and garden learning space for students at the school. The design is innovative and creative and considers the individual spirit of each of the house colours at the school. The use of recycled materials is to be commended. There are many standout features. It is an exciting transformation for the community.
