Commercial Design - Public Space

Design Brief:

 Although contained within the school grounds the space needed to provide for a broad range of activities as it is opened to the community after school hours and on weekends adding a level of complexity to the design.

This is the communal hub and represents the school’s diverse community coming together in unison, promoting both the spirit of the individual, and the strength of the collective.

The overall design aims to promote creativity via play, music and learning activities and its great heartbeat is the use of sustainable recycled materials and art uniquely contributed by local indigenous artists.

Judges’ Comments:

The design has activated this previously uninviting space. It provides clear sight lines for safety across the space. Visual and spatial interest is enhanced across the flat terrain by plenty of height difference in lots of different designed elements. This design will enhance, not only the education of the school community but raise awareness and pride in the broader community.
