Commercial Design - Public Space

Design Brief:

Village Green is a master planned estate located on the Sunshine Coast. Village Green Park forms a 1.5 hectare premier recreation park within the Village Green estate. A clear brief requirement was that all site design including landscape and open spaces must reflect the connectivity and community to be found in Village Green, as well as keeping organic shapes embodying the natural surroundings.

Detailed requirements included a naturalistic design and planting palette reflecting its coastal setting and surrounding native vegetation, clear pedestrian thoroughfares, open and adaptable village spaces for community events, gatherings and recreation. It needed to cater for a wide range of users across play equipment, exercise opportunities and spaces.

Judges’ Comments:

There is a good organisation of spaces with well grouped elements. The planting palette fits well with the coastal environment, and the overall design caters to all in the community from a small family gathering to a large community event. It is well-constructed with good design elements. A comprehensive design that would have required extensive communication and consultation to produce the excellent results.
