Landscape Design - Large Size Design
Design Brief:
The clients wanted an architectural garden that not only complimented the large home but helped to bed it down and connect it to the site through an extension of the details. This project was as much about beautifying the landscape externally as it is about bringing a garden connection into the home. Techniques like greening the roof of the basement in the internal staircase through raised planters were used to achieve this.
In the front, a stylised forest was created to help soften the façade and give semi-permeable privacy for the residence when inside. The sideway was about greening the boundaries and layering the tight garden beds with all year-round greenery and lushness. In the rear, the main focus was the swimming pool and its surround. The Andorra limestone is a key feature running through the pool and items like the outdoor kitchen and pool water feature - all oversized to replicate the details of the home.
Judges’ Comments:
There is a clever placement of plants inviting the garden indoors. The steps at the front of the house lend themselves to the design, simple and stylish as is the selection of trees. Plants almost cocoon the entire house providing privacy and a sense of calm. The design works well with the monolithic architecture of the home. There is an interesting use of bricks going into the pool as cladding rather than pool tiles. Thoughtful detailing of concrete showing evidence of the construction process adds to the industrial vibe.
