Landscape Design - Large Size Design

Design Brief:

The 450 sqm terrace surrounded a whole floor apartment. The garden designed for it was to be the transition and counterpoint for the interior design and hero views. Every room was positioned and designed around the external view. The client demanded the landscape design deliver more than “beauty”.

For the client the garden provides discovery, surprise and whimsy - all mood enhancers and emotional delight. This was achieved with robust plant selection, sculpture, unique lighting, cloud clipping and a nine-meter horizon lawn. Unique rooms were created using a fallen fence, the horizon lawn, a picking garden, dancing miscanthus, and rustling bamboo to enhance the experience.

Judges’ Comments:

This was a tough brief to create not just beauty but whimsy, joy, surprise, discovery, and delight on a high-rise wraparound balcony with extreme wind and sun as well as first line coastal and weight loading concerns. Beautiful textural green rooms with movement were created with plants that pick up the wind and rustle. Careful consideration has been given to all aspects of this spectacular apartment. The sculptures used are unique and give the entire project an air of sophistication.
