Landscape Design - Large Size Design
Design Brief:
The client requested a garden for her mother to enjoy straight away, as she didn’t have forever to wait for it to establish. She wanted the garden to embody elements of her life in Australia as well as her Italian/Mediterranean heritage. A garden that provided spaces for entertaining her extended family, as well as intimate spaces for her to spend quiet time alone.
Key objectives were accessibility to move safely around the garden without stairs, steep gradients, or any obstacles; structures and plantings to create protected spaces; elements that would encourage the family to connect with the landscape; views from inside the house so it could be enjoyed year-round, and a vast mix of planting species, with seasonal flowers, cut flowers, deciduous trees, evergreens, and succulents.
Judges’ Comments:
This is a beautiful design that meets the brief, a garden to be enjoyed straight away that has an Italian/Mediterranean style infused with Australian aspects. There is plenty to enjoy and embrace in this property with excellent accessibility, and opportunity for family engagement. At the same time areas are included that are more private and intimate. The diverse plant palette offers loads of interest, colour, texture and form.
