Plantscape
Design Brief:
This site is heavily exposed and receives brutal winds that whip off the ocean so a landscape that was sympathetic to the site context was important to get the most out of the windy conditions. Brett wanted to bring a native or indigenous plant palette to the project so that the property settled into its coastal surroundings but also wanted to elevate the plant palette so that it felt elegant and considered.
Perennial grasses and flowers which sit beautifully within the coastal native palette were used to achieve the desired result. This direction in plants means that the property is unique and has character whilst being sympathetic to its surrounding native context.
Judges’ Comments:
The plant selection for this project was challenging due to the exposed coastal site resulting in a unique planting palette combining natives, grasses and flowering exotics. There is a clever emphasis on textural plantings to blend with the locale.
