Plantscape
Design Brief:
Native and exotic plant species with contrasting forms and textures were used in this design to create an emotive and soft palette complimenting the contemporary architecture of the two-storey residence. The layered planting of varying heights coupled with the careful placement of trees and their overhead canopies creates the sense of seclusion and privacy desired by the clients.
An atmospheric green buffer is formed disguising the close proximity of the neighbouring properties. The varying tones of soft greys and lush greens, and the seasonal autumnal colours of the deciduous trees and grasses offer year-round visual interest. Set against the pale hues of the architecture and the limestone and concrete hardscape details, a sense of cohesion is achieved.
Judges’ Comments:
The brutalist architecture has been very successfully softened with a sensitive, subtle plant selection which celebrates seasonality. The soft planting palette compliments the architecture. A design which will improve with time as plants mature.
