Plantscape
Design Brief:
With its steep site, poor soil and little shelter this front yard renovation was a challenging endeavour.
The client wanted to avoid creating a series of formal terraces with rigid retaining walls. They hoped to have some organic shapes with a variety of interesting materials, mixed with formal retaining if required. While it looked like a yard with no options for play, one of the favourite activities for the children was jumping off the front verandah and rolling onto the lawn so retaining this small area of lawn was a priority. The design intent was to create a relaxed, informal garden full of textural contrast and plant variety.
Judges’ Comments:
This was a challenging site, with a very steep slope and exposed position to enter the house. Harmonious yet interesting textures and tones in both the plant and hardscape palettes have created a landscape that meets the brief and gives the property a strong street appeal.
