Project: Koolewong Residence

• Bronze Award - Residential Design (Mid Scale)

Design Brief:

The property descends 15.8metres in height, from street level to the bottom of the block. The house is set close to the street at the top, leaving a steep, rear yard of 22 metres depth requiring a new landscape. Construction was difficult on the sloping site with access only available via the neighbour below.

The clients wanted the landscape to incorporate a pool and enable them to entertain friends and family, enjoy an active outdoor life.

Judges’ Comments:
Judges thought the design successfully dealt with the challenges of the site, including its exposure to salt, sun and windy conditions. The use of circular spaces with little private nooks and crannies, great plant selections and the meandering path add interest to the site.
