Project: Bondi Backyard Bliss

• Silver Award - Residential Design (Small Scale) 

Design Brief:

The brief was to design a backyard for a family of four and their dog, bringing fresh ideas to a tired space and create a backyard made for living. The site is a small allotment in Bondi with a rear yard only 12 metres deep.

Access to the rear yard was via a strip of land 1 metre wide.
The clients wanted a place they could connect with and enjoy with friends and family and feel at home when they went outside. They wanted a Bondi vibe – including a pool, tropical/coastal themes and colours with a contemporary and ageless palette.

Judges’ Comments:
Judges described the design as a refreshing makeover transforming a jaded, under-utilised space. The juxtaposition of the living area and garden pool area works seamlessly. A simple but effective solution for a small, inner-city space. The limited palette of plants is also a good design ploy to increase space.
